Lake Anna Stripers Thursday Morning

 Guess we found them today???

Don and Bubba put Chase, Kenneth, Lisa and Hunter on the Stripers
today.

 Anthony, Bobby, Jerry and "Bat"

Hunter, Tripp and Irvin had fun with Tony today

Dale put Henry [above] and Josh [below] on some quality fish

Cloudy and Warm, Water Temp 82* and  clear
This morning I located a school of Stripers [above screen shot] on my Simrad and as we were deploying the baits I called out on my radio to the other guys and they came a running. As we were reeling in fish Don came first and sat down not far from us and hooked up numerous rods. Tony drug his feet coming to us but he got about 300 yards from us and slammed on the brakes because that was how big the school of Stripers were. Dale showed up trolling and I glanced at all our boats and it looked like fire drills with everyone reeling in fish and running around boats. In the madness I kept hearing people hollering fish on and laughing  from all the boats. We were able to follow the school for about an hour before we ran out of bait and all of us had to go catch more. After catching bait we located numerous other schools and wore our clients out reeling in Stripers.

Lake Anna Stripers for Tuesday

Don didn't have a trip today but he wanted to stay on the Stripers
so he took Bubba, Seth, Vanessa and Donna out looking for
new schools of fish. Problem is there are so many Stripers
and we know how to catch them we don't have to look much.

 Bryan

Cloudy and warm, Water temperature 81* and Clear
I needed to help Bryan do a couple things on his boat so at 11 we decided to go out and take care of his issues. While we were out Don called and said we should go catch some bait he was all over huge schools of Stripers. Naturally we could not resist so we went in search of daytime bait. Murphy's law states that if someone is catching them like Don was bait would be hard to find and it definitely was the case today. After an hour we had enough for what we needed and went out looking for fish. We tripped over a school after looking for five minutes and tried to deploy the baits before they would get hit but the fish were not liking the baits close to them and would hit them immediately. It sure was fun watching Bryan running around the boat trying to keep up with bent over rods and drags screaming. We threw about thirty away then decided to keep some for us to eat. All of this action within 45 minutes in the middle of the day, thankfully it was cloudy and a major feed was going on. Don had similar action and did not fish for long either. When we caught our bait they were done and swimming in the lake.
Lake Anna is an incredible fishery with creel limits of 4 Stripers per day per person over 20 inches, twice what you can keep on the bay. We use circle hooks which allow us to catch and release most of the fish we catch without harming the fish. Fishing is just heating up and will continue to get better the next couple of months. If you want to go Striper catching, contact us for a memorable morning on beautiful Lake Anna. We have the best guides with great electronics and work together to keep our clients busy reeling in Stripers.

Simrad Fish Reveal

These are a few screen shots demonstrating Simrads new Fish Reveal which you can get as an update from Navico for Simrad or Lowrance if your unit will accept it. The left screen is downscan with reveal turned on and the right screen is broadband 200khz sonar. On the sonar side of the screen the larger Stripers are showing up with red in the center of the arch and the smaller fish are a yellowish green color. Each arch is a Striper, just different sizes. We are actually hooked up and fighting two Stripers out of this school as you can see in the center of the shot .On the reveal side of the screen each fish show up with more definition and are color coded as to the size of the fish. The better the return the brighter the arch shows up. Now these are not perfect arches because these fish are streaking and feeding. When I see perfect arches under the boat the fish are not active and I do not work them. This morning myself and my guides caught over 200 Stripers working areas where we located feeding Stripers on our depth finders.

This is another shot earlier in the morning of Stripers as they were beginning to school. Notice again in the downscan screen how clearly you can see each fish and evaluate their size. These fish were also feeding as you can see their streaks swimming upward on the right side of the shot.

Just a couple minutes earlier than the other shot fish trying to school. I am using side scan on my other Simrad mounted on the dash and saw out to the left more fish so I moved that direction and popped that shot of the picture above this one.

This screen shot is an example of fish reveal on the down scan side of the screen. I was in 37 feet of water and went over the end of a roadbed where the bridge connected to it that was blown up before the lake was flooded. You can clearly see where the bank was undercut about 20 feet and a support under it. If you were using traditional sonar like the right side of the screen you would not be able to tell what it was.

If you would like help setting up your units or interpreting what you are seeing or even going out with us for on the water lessens on Navico products and don't mind catching a bunch orf Stripers doing it contact us at

Simrad Screen Shots

These are two screen shots using chirp with a TM-150 ducer and broadband on 200khz.

This is the same shot as the pic above using downscan on a 3D ducer

Here is a nice screen shot on sidescan of a rock pile

Downscan on the left with Navionics chart on the right.

This time of year we are fishing huge schools of Stripers. Good electronics and the knowledge of how to use them and how to interpret what you are looking at separate the boys from the men, the difference in catching 15 fish a morning or 100 fish a morning.  If you would like to step your game up a couple of notches and catch a bunch of Stripers book a trip with us. Contact us and reserve a charter, you will be glad you did!

Lake Anna Stripers

Anthony and Michael
Rain and Clouds, Water Temperature 78* and Stained

The boys wanted to go fishing today and take advantage of the awesome bite on the lake but wanted to sleep in so DP came over after eight and we hit the water about nine. It took us about an hour to put 150 baits in the tank then we were ready to go have some fun. It took about ten minutes for me to locate some Stripers but once we set up on them the rods started bowing. It's great to see numerous rods hooked up and the boys running all over the boat trying to catch up. I was baiting and DP was removing the fish so we could have constant action. Next thing we knew we were out of bait and the boys were wore out. 150 hits in 90 minutes, that was crazy! We were so busy we didn't even know we were getting wet from the rain. Always fun to get on the water regardless of the weather. This week myself and our guides caught and released over 1,000 Stripers. We use and highly recommend Circle hooks when releasing fish. 98 percent of the time the fish is hooked right in the side of the mouth allowing us to easily unhook the Stripers and return him safely back into the water. This fishery is made possible by the excellent management of the Va. Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Biologists headed up by John Odenkirk. We are seeing dozens of schools of Stripers over 200 feet wide some days at times on our side scan and we have only worked an area of the lake about 3 miles long. I will post some screenshots soon showing some of the screen shots. Come on out and join us for a memorable morning on the water fishing for Stripers and Hybrids on Lake Anna.

Lake Anna fishing getting better daily!

 Mac and Hunter

Tyler, Earl and Greg

Rain, Water Temperature 78* and Stained
Today was the third day in a row calling for heavy rain and I had some clients that were scheduled to fish today but didn't want to get wet so I took three hardy soles out and Tony took Hunter and Mac out. Guess what? The Stripers obviously don't mind the rain, at least the 175 we caught today didn't. We caught so many fish we had to restock our bait tanks twice more during the morning. This fishery is the Bomb!

Quite the morning, 225 Stripers by 11 o'clock

Roy and Bill had their hands full today with Tony
Bryan put Dougie on some nice Stripers

 Bryan's cooler of Stripers

Floyd caught over 60 fish by himself this morning.

This is what our depth finders looked like all morning. Today between
myself and two of our other guides we caught over 225 Stripers. When
you are catching that many it is almost constant action. You need to have
at least 4 anglers on board to handle it. Today I had just Floyd and it was
crazy in the boat while we fished for 2 1/2 hours. Many times we had four
or five rods hooked up at once. The sweet thing is this type of fishing is just
getting started and should last for the next couple of months. We want to see
you and your friends in these pictures, contact us and let us hook you up!

Lake Anna Stripers...I think we are on 'em!

Screen shot from today. Bumped the sensitivity up to see the sinker [horizontal line at 32 feet] coming through the Stripers. Since there were so many Stripers here we were testing to see if they would hit a piece of lead. No takers!

Chris and Tim had their hands full today fishing with Tony

Pastor Ross and Patty with their limit

Don put Delmont, Phil and Bubba on some nice ones

Roger, CJ, Bubba and Don

We are consistently catching our limits of Stripers now and the action
is only going to get better. This is no longer just fishing, it's catching!

Didn't get Punked today!

Walter [Thumbs], Austin, Punk Sr., Eric and Punk Jr.

Sunny and Pretty, Water Temperature 80* and Clear

Today stated off cloudy so I pulled boards over 5 to 25 foot flats. We took a lot of hits but after going through about 40 baits with only 5 keepers I decided to change the game plan. The sun had come out and I was ready to put these guys on some fish but I don't think they quite knew what they were in store for. After about 45 minutes of madness I started running low on baits so I went and threw and in one throw put 100 more baits in the tank. I was ready then so I put the guys on the fish and we wore them out. Today we took well over 100 strikes, boated 70 Stripers [give or take a couple], and caught over thirty keepers, releasing the healthy ones.
Prayers go out to Punk Sr., best wishes on your treatments.
Can't wait to get you back out there to show the boys how its done!
