May 30th, 2008: Sunny and warm, Water Temp 74*and Clear. Picked the guys up at 5:30 this morning and set up on main lake 20 to 25 foot flats . We put out 8 planner boards and a bobber rigged with Gizzards and 7 downlines rigged with Herring and Gizz. Had 4 other friends out in their boats also today so I had a good feel for what the fish were doing, which wasn't much. This May has been the poorest May for Striper fishing that I can remember. I look forward to June, the downline bite and catching 20 to 50 fish a morning. We worked our spread for 9 hours today and caught 6 Stripers and a Walleye. May 27th, 2008: Cloudy and Warm, Water Temp 72*.

Caught Herring early this morning and picked the guys up at 5:30. Realizing this was the day after the busiest weekend of the summer I anticipated the Stripers would be deep and nervous. I looked for schools of fish for awhile but never found fish bunched up, Stripers were spread out over deeper flats near the bottom. We set up on a deep flat and put out downlines . I told the guys that the first 10 minutes of the mornings fishing would probably dictate how the day would go. If the fish wanted to eat, they would hit the bait head first and we would have a great day. If they just hit the tails to kill the bait, we would only catch smaller fish. We had 10 hits in 15 minutes, boating 4 Stripers, all punks. I moved on looking for larger fish and checking out different depths and parts of the lake hoping to find larger fish that we could trick into eating. After spending 3 hours on the motor today and fishing a dozen different areas my suspicions ended up being correct, fishing sucked today. Although we had over 150 strikes and caught 15 Stripers, only 8 kept, and they were small. Can't wait for June and more stable weather patterns.

May 24th, 2008 : Sunny and Pleasant, Memorial Weekend, Water Temp 69* and Clear.
Caught bait early and picked the guys up at the dock at 5:30 am. Set up on a point nearby with some fish on it but the fish did not want to eat. Found some other fish on a main lake flat and put downlines in their faces and the madness began. Fish really weren't eating today but more killing the baits. We hit 4 or 5 different places and by 11:30 we had witnessed about 200 strikes, catching a dozen Stripers, a bunch of Catfish and a couple of Bass. May 22nd, 2008: Partly Sunny and Cool, Water Temp 68* and Clear. Caught bait early and picked clients up at 5:30 and headed for a main lake flat. Found fish 30' deep and put downlines in their faces. Took only a couple minutes for the action to begin and by 7 o'clock we had already had over 50 bites. We worked the area for a while and fished a couple other similar areas and then hit a flat that was loaded with fish , put baits on them and all the lines went off for 30 minutes straight. The guys are pictured with the first fish they each caught. Today we had over 175 hits by 11am, loosing count of how many fish we caught. All fish were released today to be caught again.

May 20th, 2008 : Rain and cool, Water temp 66* and Stained.
Got out on the water early and caught Herring and Gizzards and picked clients up at 5:30am. Set up a dozen free lines and 3 down lines on a main lake flat and pulled boards over 20 flats and points. By 8 we had only 1 Striper in the boat so I decided to make a move to down lines over deeper flats where I found schools of Stripers. We started getting hits immediatly and continued to till we ran out of bait. We went and caught more bait and set up on another deep flat with no luck there. James is holding a Bass he caught on a downline. Today we had close to 100 hits, catching Stripers, Bass and Catfish.

May 16th, 2008: Rain and Clouds, Water temp 69*.

Got out early this morning and caught bait. Went directly to where I found some nice schools of fish yesterday and put an assortment of baits on them. We had 10 hits within 5 minutes , every hit the fish just hitting the back of the bait. I put out some huge Gizzards and pulled them across a flat and Goose put a 10 pounder in the boat. Pulled another 500 yards with no action so I went to downlines. Hit an area full of fish and had another 50 strikes. Went uplake and caught more bait and put out a spread of boards over a flat with fish on it and boated a 7 pounder, worked it for another 45 minutes, nothing. A friend called me over to what he thought were some feeding fish and we put a Striper in the boat. A major storm blew in and we had to get off the water. Today we had 60 to 70 hits , got wet and blown around the lake.

May 15th, 2008 : Sunny and Pleasant, Water Temp 69* and Very Stained.
Caught bait this morning and started off on a main lake flat pulling boards. Saw a lot of fish but after an hour only had 2 fish in the boat so we made a move. The rain over the last week has really muddied up the lake and I saw plenty of fish in the upper water column. I decided to run up lake and put the biggest baits I had out on the banks and the move paid off, catching 10 Stripers by noon. Brian is holding a 10 pounder.

Last night Lake Anna lost one of its most well liked and revered fisherman and resident, Striper Fisherman Doug Ball. Doug's laughter and Jolliness will be missed but not forgotten. We would like to express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

May 7th, 2008: Sunny and Warm, Water Temp 72* and Clear.
Picked clients up early and went to catch bait. Set up on a main lake flat pulling big Gizzards. Immediately the Stripers started boiling the baits but would not hit them. I put out some smaller Herring but they would not get looked at so we continued to pull the gizzards but only boated 2 fish by 9am. Found a large school of Stripers on a deep flat and put downlines on them but they refused to hit our offerings. After working a couple of large school with no success I made another move and worked another school with limited success. We had 30 hits today catching 8 Stripers, 3 Bass and a couple Cats.

May 5th, 2008 : Sunny and Warm, Water Temp 68* and Clear.

Picked clients up at 4:30 and caught bait. Set up on a 15 foot flat pulling boards and after an hour of fish swirling our baits with no hook-ups I moved on. Ran a couple more flats with no luck and decided to try downlines over deeper fish. We ended up struggling to catch a dozen Stripers with clients keeping half of them.

Gary's wife Susan surpised him with a fishing trip for his birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY. Picked the guys up at 5:30, went and caught bait and setup on a 15 foot flat pulling boards . I also had 4 other friends out this morning fishing doing the same. After 1 hour of fishing and having a dozen swirls on our baits with no hook-ups and the other guys having similar action I converted to downlines and started catching fish. the wind , barometer and boat traffic put the fish down. We worked 3 or 4 areas today and caught 15 Stripers and a few Catfish. Gary and his son are pictured holding 2 of the better fish, a 10 1/2 and 9 pound Striper.

May 2nd, 2008 : Sunny and Warm, Water Temp 69* and clear. Picked clients up at 5:30 and headed up lake to fish. I caught bait yesterday so we could get an early start. Set up on a main lake flat and pulled 10 boards, a bobber and a couple of down lines. Ran my spread for 3 hours only putting a couple of fish in the boat so I decided to go catch some fresh bait and we did. Came right back to where I fished this morning because I saw so many fish there earlier and put out the same spread. On the way back from catching bait Gary pulled out a Banana and Paul gave him grief for bring it aboard and it being bad luck, reminding him of the 2 very nice fish he lost earlier. Anyway, the banana was off the boat and we were going to give it our best shot. We continued to run the same area the rest of the day, and we nailed them. Gary catching the largest fish of the day after loosing the banana, a 16 1/2 pound Striper. We only had 2 dozen strikes today, catching 8 Stripers and a couple of Cats.

John went out early and caught bait then picked his clients up at 6 am. He pulled the mouths of creeks, points and humps today with boards. His clients had 20 strikes today, catching 10 Stripers and keeping 4 . Good Job Guys.

April 30th, 2008: Sunny and pleasant, Water Temp 66* and Clear.

Picked clients up at 5:30 am and spent the next 2 hours catching bait. Set up on a main lake flat that I found fish on yesterday and pulled my spread over it. On our first 3 passes we caught fish but they turned off at 9. Appeared to be a early morning bite and we missed most of it catching bait. We moved and set up on a school of fish in 30 feet of water and put downlines on them but only got bumped twice so I relocated to another main lake flat and put out my spread again. Fish were everywhere on the depth finder but just did not want to eat. They are spawning heavily now and are not real interested in eating mid day. We ended up only getting 13 strikes today . The water temp has dropped 8 * in less than a week, it is going to warm right back up and I am sure so will the fishing.

April 29th, 2008: Rain, Sunny, Cloudy, Cold and Windy. Water Temp 67* and Clear.

Picked clients up at High Point at 5:30 and went and caught bait up lake. Threw for about an hour and a half then set up on a ridge mid lake pulling boards , bobber and down lines. Saw a lot of fish 20 to 30 feet deep but they would not hit the downlines. Some blew up on the boards. I knew it would be a long day after pulling 200 yards, seeing all those fish and only getting 3 or 4 hits. We continued to pull the ridge back and forth till the fish left putting a half a dozen fish in the boat. We went and caught more bait and set up on a up lake flat in 10 feet of water and worked it and some channel points with limited success so we moved again and tried working a large school in 28 feet of water but they would not bite. I left them and looked for broken up bait for awhile and found what I wanted on a 20 foot flat and set out the boards again. The weather hassled us all day with wind and rain but we finally got into a few fish. Doug caught the big fish of the day, a 12 3/4 p0under there with a couple other nice fish. Fingers decided to let a nice one go later on in the day and we also had a Monster Striper blow one of our baits out of the water on that spot. We had 25 strikes today with clients keeping 11 Stripers, releasing a Bass, Catfish and an Osprey that hit our bait with his talon.

April 25th, 2008 : Sunny and Warm, Water Temp 72* and Clear.

This is the second part of my day, had other clients earlier and dropped them off at 2:30 and picked up this motley crew. Brian is a good friend, client and sportsman. He took Joe and Phil out this morning for a successful Turkey hunt and wanted to end the day on the lake turning on his family and friends to a beautiful evening Striper fishing on the lake. We went and caught a few more baits and set up where we caught fish this morning. By now the lake was buzzing with boat traffic , people arriving early for the weekend and Bass boaters practicing for tomorrows tournaments. We pulled the area for 2 hours, getting 8 to 10 hits but only boating 2 or 3 there so we decided to move. We wanted to hit a spawning flat uplake so we went there at 6 pm and put out a dozen baits, pulled the short flat, the fish did not cooperate there so I decided to get the baits up and hit another spawning flat just downlake. We set up on it with an hour of daylight left in the day and started getting hits. We knew we had made the right move and had the possibility of loading the boat. The fish were here and we started putting Stripers in the boat. I made a turn to hit the flat again and worked even shallower. The fish were really turning on now but we kept getting run over by boats and jet skis which would put the fish down. It didn't matter too much, the evening was beautiful, the company and fishing great, clients catching 8 or 10 Stripers to take home for dinner. Brian is a regular client and brings his friend John along usually on the fishing trips. Today is the first day John made it through the trip without Brian or myself reminding him not to set the hook, touch the line and follow the fish. I am not sure if it was because he was sober or the fact that he did not ever grab a rod this evening! Just kidding you John, I know it was too early to drink and you were driving home.

With the lake warming like it has I expect fishing to just get better and better as long as the weather will cooperate. Today we had well over 50 ferocious strikes with many of the fish winning the battle.

April 25th, 2008 : Sunny and warm, Water Temp 72* and Clear.
Picked clients up today at 5am to get an early start. I caught bait yesterday so we could be fishing at first light and take advantage of the early bite. Set up with a spread of 10 Planner boards , a bobber and a couple of downlines and pulled main lake flats in 10 to 25 feet of water. It didn't take long for the action to begin and once it did it was non stop for 3 hours till we ran out of bait. We decided to go catch more bait and left the area , buzzards had found us and were circling in for the kill and we thought once we leave, they would . Caught 50 more baits and came back and set up on the same area. By now the boat traffic was heavy but the fisherman were gone so we could work where we wanted to unmolested. The fish still cooperated and by 1:30 we called it quits and went back to the marina to get some pictures. Matt caught a beautiful citation Bass weighing well over 8 pounds that had already spawned. He got a citation for the Bass and released the fish to be caught again. This morning we had 40 strikes, clients keeping 13 Stripers to take home with a lot of memories. The water Temp has risen 10 degrees in a week and this lake has turned on!

April 22nd, 2008 : Cloudy and cool, Water Temp 64*.

Got out on the water at 5:15 and caught bait and set up on some points and flats in the mouths of creeks pulling boards. Put one in the boat on the first pull , fished them for another hour with no hits and relocated main lake. Had 3 fish hook up while I was trying to set up and only got one of them in the boat. Pulled a main lake flat and put a couple more in the boat and then all of a sudden the fish turned off. We tried a couple of other spots with no success. We struggled today for 5 Stripers with only a dozen hits. We need some stable weather!

Friday, April 18th, 2008 : Sunny and warm, Water temps 62* and Clear.

Picked clients up at 5:30 am and ran uplake. We set up on main lake points around the mouth of a river pulling 10 planner boards, a bobber and a couple of downlines. After a bright full moon last night I was a little concerned that the fish had feed pretty hard last night. We hit the first point with no action so I pulled over to a point that I knew Stripers were spawning on. On the first pull we had 4 fish blow up on our baits and Mark hooked up on the largest one of the day. We turned and hit the point 4 more times only to have the fish roll the baits, not wanting to feed. There was a lot of chatter on the radio this morning, other fisherman experiencing the same situations. I move to other points, only to get short strikes. I decided to go catch more fresh bait so we could be ready when the fish decided to turn on. We set up on a deeper area off a main feeding flat and saw fish deep over 25 feet of water. We put boards and downlines out but on got hits on the boards. We attempted to pull the flat but every time we approached the flat boats would run over it, keeping the fish deep. We hung out there the rest of of the day , getting more and more strikes as the day progressed. We ended up with 7 Stripers after getting 19 strikes. We hooked up with a half a dozen more but just could not get them in the boat. The fish were definitely affected by the full moon last night!

April 17th, 2008 : Sunny , Water Temp 60* and Clear.

Got a late start this morning and took 3 hours to catch bait. I am sure we missed the first bite of the morning but we set up on a shallow feeding flat hoping to catch the tail end of the feed. We did get a couple of strikes just as I finished putting the lines out but it was clear the fish were not interested in eating. After working shallow and deeper waters we hit a couple different areas and just could not put much together today. We ended up with only four Stripers but after talking to 5 other fisherman today it seemed the fish were just turned off. I dropped my clients off at the Marina at 3:30 and went back out and caught bait for tomorrows clients so we could get an early start.

April 16th, 2008 : Sunny and Pleasant , Water temp. 59* and Clear.

Picked clients up at the dock at 6am and went to catch bait. Set up on a flat and pulled boards over 20 feet of water. Caught a couple on our first pass but then fishing slowed down. Hit some deeper water nearby with downlines and some shallower flats with boards with little success. Went and caught more bait and found a very nice school of Stripers over 35 feet of water and pulled downlines through them and only caught 2. Went looking for other schools, found some even deeper but they were not hungry either. We struggled through the day with 8 Stripers and a Catfish. Weather is getting better and fishing is going to break loose real soon, fish are spawning!

April 13th, 2008 : Cloudy and cool, Water Temp 58* and Clear.

Got out early this morning and caught bait, picked clients up at their dock at 6:30 am. Took a short ride and put out my spread working a 300 yard flat. We no sooner got all 13 lines out and fish started boiling all over the area and our baits started getting clobbered. We had 5 strikes before we ever got the first fish in the boat , the fish hooking up, pulling drag, and just getting off. There was surface action all around us, we threw lures at the fish but with no success. We pulled our baits through the fish and the fish just seemed lethargic this morning feeding. We worked the area for a couple hours and the board bite subsided. We converted to more downlines and moved deeper and resumed catching fish. I believe alot of the action this morning on the surface were male Stripers rolling the females spawning. We were off the water by 11am this morning, getting 45 vicious strikes and clients taking home 11 Stripers for the dinner table. The crew partied pretty hard last night, there were a couple guys on board trying to find their sea legs this morning and a couple more guys stayed back at the house this morning, hugging toilets.

April 10th, 2008 : Sunny and Warm, Water Temp 57* and Clear.

Picked clients up at 6am and went and caught bait. Set up on a midlake flat pulling 10 boards, a bobber and a couple downlines. After pulling about 150 yards I told the guys this doesn't look good , we should have been bit at least 4 or 5 times already. We went another 100 yards and caught a catfish and that confirmed my fears, it would be a slow day. Went 50 more yards and 2 boards hooked up and one downline hooked up and we boated all 3. Pulled a little further with no luck and turned back to hit the area where we caught the fish. Had a strike but it did not hook up . Worked the flat for a couple of hours on catching a couple more. I had 2 other friends fishing today , one catching 3 Stripers and a Walleye and the other catching only 2 Crappie all day. We changed patterns and worked different depths the rest of the day with only a couple more strikes. Today we had about 15 hits and boated 7 Stripers.

April 8th, 2008 : Cloudy and cold, Water Temp 54* and Clear. Got out early this morning to catch bait and picked client up about 7:45. Set up on a flat just below 208 bridge and put out a spread of planner boards and a couple downlines. Once we hit the flat a board went off and Ron reeled in the largest Bass he has ever caught, a 22" citation Bass. We had a couple of more hits on the flat and I decided to move. We found a bunch of fish deep in 32 feet of water, put downlines on them and nothing, baits did not even get nervous. I continued to see fish so I put out 6 planner boards along with the 6 downlines we had out and pulled about 2 miles of water for a half dozen strikes. I had enough of this and decided to do something completely different, I went even deeper and found some fish near the bottom in 45 feet of water and put baits in their faces and finally got some action. Ron caught 8 Stripers today and his Bass, He was happy but it made for a long day for me. I was expecting the fish to rock today and they didn't. April 4th, 2008 : Cloudy and Windy, Water Temp 53 * and Clear.

Picked clients up around 6 am and went and caught bait. Set up on some main lake points with 10 Planner boards, a bobber and a couple down lines. I had just engaged my last reel in deploying my baits when the board closest to the bank went off in about 3 feet of water. George grabbed the rod a reeled it in, a 23 inch 7 pound Citaition Bass. Not a bad way to start the day! Before he got the fish in another rod went off and Paul hauled in a nice Striper. While taking it off the hook another line went off and then another. We got these fish in and I had just got all the baits out again when we came up on the next point. The outer-most board went off and George grabbed it. Now he is a seasoned veteran when it comes to fishing and after a minute of fighting the fish he mumbled " I think this is a real nice fish". He was right, we got it on board and measured it, it was a 34" fat cow! We popped a picture and George said " I want to release the fish" so we put it back into the lake to be caught another day. While we were doing this Paul reeled in another fish. We had a couple of downlines out and they were getting plenty of action but I was running out of bait and could not put more out quick enough. A downline went off and Paul grabbed it , the drag screeemed of the reel and pulled off about 50 yards before Paul could turn the fish. While he was wrestling his fish in another hog grabbed a bait and George fought it. We got Paul's fish in and it was a 35 " Striper [at the end of the day we weighed it, 19 1/4 pounds.] George was still fighting his hog and 'POP' , the fish rolled and gilled the line and broke off. We had to go catch more bait but the fish never turned on quite as good as the bite was this morning. By the end of the trip we caught 11 Stripers, 2 - 9 pounders, 2 - 10 pounders , and 2 -19 pounders. Ended up being a great day, sure missed their good fishing buddy who couldn't make it today, Geo. April 3rd, 2008 ; Cloudy and rain, Water temp 53*.

Suppose to pick clients up at 6 but they were running late so I went and caught bait. While I was catching bait I saw Stripers busting baits on the surface and wished my clients were there. I finally picked my clients up at 8am and we set up on a flat pulling boards and a downline. We were late getting started and got in on the tail end of the morning bite but managed to put a few nice Stripers in the boat. The wind got up and changed directions and started to blow out of the east and shut the fish off. We fished the rest of the day with little more success. All day I kept wondering " What could we have caught if we could have got an early start"? Well , the guys had a good father - son outing and ended well.

March 28th, 2008 : Sunny , Windy and Warm, Water temp 54* and Clear.
Got out early and hung a light for bait, picked the crew up early because they wanted to learn how to catch bait. Threw once on the light and had all the bait I needed and we went and set up on a deep flat protected from the winds by a high hill with trees. I set up 10 Planner boards and a bobber and just as I got the last board out the action began. Little Logan jumped up and grabbed the rod and for the next 5 minutes he wished he hadn't cause a 10 pound Striper wanted to whip his but and almost did! While he was fighting his fish another board went off and Brock grabbed the rod and fought it for a couple minutes, masterfully working his fish around the boat keeping his fish separated from Logans. The two boys had just put 18 pounds of Stripers in the boat and once they got their pictures taken, they announced they wanted to have a tournament against their Dads. For the next 3 hours we continued to get strikes about every 10 minutes or so. The Dads tried to keep up with the boys but fell a little behind after Jeff lost a few in a row. [The boys made up rules as they went along, not allowing the Dads to reel in other fish once they lost one]. We had to go and catch bait and then fished similar patterns with equal success. By the end of the "tournament" , the boys kicked some Dads Butt. Today we had 36 Strikes, boating 14 Stripers. Brock had the largest, a nice 12 pounder.

March 26th, 2008 : Sunny and Windy, Water Temps 53* to 55* and Clear.

Caught Herring early and threw for Gizzards for 3 hours with limited success and went fishing. Found a school near the bottom in 28 feet of water and worked them with downlines but the fish would not feed. Went and caught some Gizz and found some more deep fish and worked them for a few hours getting at least 30 strikes, mostly in the tails. We fished hard today to catch 8 Stripers and a couple of Catfish. Todays trip was a benefit for The United Way through Dominion Electric, thanks Dave for the great donation.

Friday, March 21st, 2008: Sunny and pleasant, Water Temp 51* uplake and stained, 55* midlake and clear. Picked up 2 other clients this morning and went to catch bait. As Doug was stepping onto the boat he said "Picked the wrong morning to go fishing with the full moon shinning bright last night didn't I" . I confirmed his fears and told him that usually the fish feed hard during a night as bright as it was but not to worry, the Stripers would feed just as well this afternoon. Then he muttered " well, we have to come off the water at 11am this morning because my son had other plans for the afternoon". That being said put the pressure on me and set the tone for a interesting day. We caught bait and set up way uplake in 5 feet of water and deployed 10 planner boards and a bobber and worked our way back downlake hoping the fish in the stained water did not feed as much last night. We kept getting hits but the fish were hitting the Herring in the tails not being interested in eating them, just killing the baits. 11 o'clock came fast and I took the guys back to the marina . They took home a Striper, a couple of Bass and a couple of nice Crappie. While I was running back to the marina I called a friend who lives on the lake and invited him to fish this afternoon since I already had bait and I thought the fish would feed. I picked him up about noon and headed for deep water. I had a friend who was also fishing today who had been working shallow water with freelines that had not put a fish in the boat , He and I not doing well shallow forced me to try deep. I found lots of schools of bait deep with a few fish nearby so we set out downlines and worked the areas. The move payed off , the Stripers feeding better and better as the afternoon progressed. We ended up having about 40 strikes this afternoon, keeping a few Stripers to take home , and Earl releasing a couple Hogs to be caught again. Sorry Doug and Dillon had to leave early this morning!

Caught Herring early and picked the guys at the dock at 7am. Ran uplake and set up on points in the mouths of creeks and had a couple of hits and caught a Striper . Within an hour boats started running over our lines on one point so we moved to another point and damn if 3 boats didn't run between us and the bank, one of them running aground stalling the motor! I new then we were in for a bad day so we got out lines in and went to the back of a creek where we thought there would be less traffic, Ha! After an hour of fishing there we moved again and again trying to get away from the boat traffic with no success. Needless to say our catch today was hindered by the traffic and shut the fish down. We struggled to catch fish today ! Can't wait to get back out on a weekday to catch some Big Stripers...

March 14th, 2008 : Sunny and Beautiful, Water Temps 54* to 57* and Clear.

Picked clients up at the marina at 5 am this morning because they wanted to go with me to catch bait. Had plenty of bait by 6:15 and set up on a nearby flat and pulled a dozen baits across it. We had a couple of strikes and boated a fish but I just had to move. We went and set up on main lake points in the mouths of creeks and had some more hits but the Stripers just didn't want to feed there either so we worked our way up the creek and caught some fish on points. The boat traffic got bad around noon and we had to move. I ran up in a creek and hit a couple of points and got hits on every pass. David wanted to learn the lake so I decided to take him downlake and we worked some deep flats with downlines and caught Stripers there also. Today we had 42 strikes, boating 19 Stripers and the guys keeping a few for the freezer. Dave let a few nice ones go today , he is going to try to catch them tomorrow. The water really warmed up today and so did the fishing!

March 12th, 2008 : Sunny and windy, Water Temp 50* and Clear.

Caught bait early this morning and picked clients up at 7am . Set up on a shallow flat that I had fished yesterday morning with success and pulled 10 planner boards and a bobber over it rigged with Herring. After working the flat for 45 minutes I decided to make a move because the fish just were not aggressive, they only hit the baits in the tail and we only put 1 keeper in the boat. [Yesterday morning in an hour pull we had 15 hits with multiple hook-ups.] We set up on and worked main lake points where fish were but the fish just did not want to eat. We hit about 15 points and in between with limited success and by now the wind was howling. I made another move to the back third of a major creek and put our spread out. The Stripers did the same thing until I hit a certain secondary point and every pass we made on it we would get hits and catch fish. Today we had 19 strikes boating 9 Stripers. We wouldn't have had that success if it were not for Lenny's alertness and Brians help with the rods.

Thursday, March 6th, 2008:

Sunny and 50's, Water Temp 45* to 54* and clear.

Got out a couple of hours before daylight and set out two lights to lure Herring. After working both lights for an hour and a half I realized the bait wasn't coming to the lights so I got on my big motor and found a school to throw on and caught 75 . Picked Greg up at 6am and set up on a nearby flat pulling 8 Planner boards , a bobber and a downline. I didn't get the baits out before we had two hits, catching one and missing one. I played catch up for the next hour trying to keep baits in the water. I was out today checking different places that I have not fished yet this year looking for places to take my clients to get out of the wind this weekend. I knew the fish were here so I left them while they were still biting and moved on. We looked deep for awhile then set up on another 20 foot flat and pulled it for 1/2 hour without putting a keeper in the boat and decided to move on. We hit the backs of a couple creeks and put fish in the boat and kept moving. Fished some very deep flats with downlines also with little success. We could have probably caught well over 20 fish today but I left the areas for my clients. We kept 8 of the 12 Stripers we boated and had some fun . Greg works for Louisa Boat and Motors and needed a break from work today. I think he will sleep well tonight.

Sunday Morning Blues [Stripers]

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008 : Sunny and pleasant, Water Temperature 46* and clear.

Laid around the house this morning watching fishing shows till 9 0'clock wishing I was out on the water because there finally was No Wind! I knew 2 friends were out on the lake fishing this morning because both of them invited me to go last night so I called one of them up and he said fishing was slow. I waited about 10 minutes and called the other guy up and he also confirmed the fishing wasn't much but I just could not take it anymore, the outside temperature has risen from 20* up to 30* and I told him to pick me up on the dock at 10 am. We hit a flat with some boards and worked it for 300 yards and didn't get a strike so we decided to get on the big motor and look for some deep fish since the shallow bite was off. I kept seeing balls of Herring right on the channel edges and a couple of fish nearby and no fish anywhere else so we decided to set up over 30 feet of water working nearby the channel. We just set out 4 downlines to "feel" the water out and the front right rod bent over and popped right back up. I told Anthony to check it, it just got hit. He thought it hit bottom but reeled it in and put it right back out. The whole time I was watching this take place on the depthfinder and when he engaged the reel after putting it back out it bowed over again . The fish waited for him to put the bait back out, we watched the fish hit the bait and him fight the fish on the Lowrance. We set out a couple more rods and duplicated the same scenario time and time again watching the Stripers come off the bottom and take our offerings. I came off the water at 1 o'clock , boating some nice 10 pounders and satisfying my urge to get out of the house. Anthony is holding a couple of the fish we caught , we did not have a stringer to show the other fish.
